A table for two using a unique blend of design, steel, and a novel use of job-site recycled wood.

I’m a fan of CVGF (clear vertical grain fir, but it’s not always the easiest material to find.  I’m also aware that while being technically a renewable material, it takes a very long time for a tree to get big enough to have quality clear vertical grain. For that reason I’m always on the lookout for a replacement.

In this case I used a material called LVL.  That’s laminated veneer lumber, an engineered product.  Think of it as plywood structural beams; very beefy.  I took some scrap pieces of LVL and sliced them into narrow strips.  Next I re-laminated them into the form you see here.  I’m pleased with the end result and although it’s a very time consuming process, its a much more earth friendly alternative to clear fir.  Of course you can’t have just a table, so the stools can be seen here.
